Popori Acoustics
Handcrafted Electrostatic Loudspeakers
Popori Acoustics is a Hungarian manufacturer of handcrafted electrostatic loudspeakers, headquartered in Baja, Hungary. The company is named after its founder, chief designer Otto Popori, a Hungarian engineer who first encountered electrostatic speakers at an audio show in the 1990s and spent over two decades developing his own designs — motivated by a US manufacturer's dismissal that engineers outside America could not master the technology. After years of private development, Popori Acoustics Limited was formally established around 2021, with industrial designer Gabor Marko contributing the speakers' distinctive visual form. The flagship WR1 debuted in 2020 at $64,000/pair, followed by the WR2 ($38,875/pair) and the top-line XR1.23 ($75,500/pair). Each speaker is hand-assembled using proprietary stator wire technology — insulated stretched wires rather than conventional perforated metal sheets — and individually measured panels, enabling full-range electrostatic reproduction down to 26Hz without supplemental dynamic drivers. US distribution is handled by Notable Audio Products of Falls Church, VA. The brand exhibited at AXPONA 2026 and in early 2026 transitioned to the Prodigio Audio name under new leadership, continuing Otto Popori's legacy of handcrafted electrostatic innovation.
